The Man Behind the Scenes: Russ Vincent, COO

I talk a big game over here in the blog, but you know who makes this whole machine go? It's my husband and business partner (and best friend), Russell Vincent. In 2018, we sold 11,600ish bars of handmade soap. In 2019, we sold more than 43,000 bars, most of which...

Blazing Saddles Western Handmade Soap and Lotion: The scent soundtrack to your cowboy adventure

Blazing Saddles, our ultimate cowboy scent (leather, gunpowder, sandalwood, and sagebrush), is hands down our most popular scent. Why? It's a surprisingly deep and complex arrangement of olfactory delights, which evoke a lone cowboy walking into town, carrying his saddle, smelling of a recent gunfight. It's the scent of the...

The Mills Have Lyes

From raw oil to your mailbox: how we make our handmade soap from scratch

This is us: But we don't always look like such rockstars. Most of the time, we're doing our jobs, not walking down the railroad tracks (and subsequently getting kicked off for trespassing, but that's neither here nor there).Russ makes every bar of soap by hand from scratch. Here he is getting oil from large 420 lb drums:

The Clean Getaway Club Soap Subscription Box and How it Evolved Over Time

I wanted to give presents. The whole idea behind the Clean Getaway Club soap subscription box was that I wanted to send care packages to strangers with the hopes that their day would somehow be made more joyful or exciting. I didn't want it to be fancy, just some stuff I put together as a little "thinking of you." I mean, yeah, I didn't necessarily specifically know each subscriber, so I wasn't technically thinking of them specifically, but I feel like in general, days kind of blend together and so receiving something special might put a kick in people's step. And sending someone a care package out of the blue, at least to me, is like saying "Hey, I want you to have a cool day." But it's expensive to send presents to a hundred people out of the blue, so I knew we'd have to charge something for 'em. But...

Mountain Hideout: In the mountains, you're free

Mountain Hideout was another soap that spanned across many titles before finally resting in its (maybe?) final home. It was once again inspired by a scent that came as a sample in our quest for whiskey scent (and oh, what a quest it was). But instead of knowing what we wanted and then searching for a way to make it happen, like we did with Hair of the Dog and Lust in the Dust, when we got the very uniquely realistic nuts and pine scent, we knew we had to do something with it. And thus was born "Pine Mountain."

Lust in the Dust: the soap we loved so much we refused to let it die

Being in Joshua Tree makes me feel most alive. The Outlaw Soaps logo (you know, with the joshua tree, the girl, and the dog) is actually just a slightly edited picture of a tattoo I have on my right arm. I got the tattoo over a couple years as I realized that Joshua Tree is where my heart lives, no matter where I physically am. When I was working in Los Angeles, I'd often drive out to the high desert to hang out with friends, camp, and enjoy the particular open feeling of the sun rising.
