Bravo Farms - a little roadside attraction x 2, for big fun!

It's no secret that we're HUGE fans of Bravo Farms, a roadside attraction both off the 99 in Traver, and off the I-5 in Kettleman City. Not only are they delightfully rustic, with a mix of new stuff and very cool antiques, but they also have a shooting gallery (bonus), goats (EXTRA bonus), chickens (HOLY SHITBONUS), and ridiculously good Bar-b-que. Yeah, it's pretty much the best place ever.

Grand Soapening and the new store!

Some big news happened since the beginning of this month and I haven't said ANYTHING about it here on the blog. This is actually quite insane, but the reason is because we have been working our tails off and haven't been able to sufficiently focus on the store, the grand soapening, or even maintaining regular hours. It may surprise you to know that opening a retail store hasn't ever been a big dream of ours. But...

The Autry Museum now carries Outlaw Soaps

It's not overstating even a little bit to say that having our products in the gift shop of The Autry Museum in Los Angeles is one of the greatest honors of my life. Amazing, isn't it? Several of our gift sets are now sitting in possibly the greatest Western/cowboy museums in the world. Earlier this month, I happened to be heading down to Los Angeles to go to a taping of a show for the author of You Are A Badass, which has been a very influential book in my life. As luck would have it (luck? Or the awesomeness of friends?), a couple friends had stopped by The Autry and suggested that they carry our products.

Countdown to Christmas: Day 23 - Stock alert! Unicorn Poop is critically low (on Amazon)!

The sugar is hitting the fan! (ok, that was a cheap Unicorn Poop joke) I imagined that I had sent all the stock we needed to send to Amazon for the entire holidays in early November. A couple weeks into November, it was clear that we would have to send more, so I sent another hundred or so bars. In the last month (Nov 3 - Dec 3), we have sold 309 bars of Unicorn Poop through Amazon.

Customer Service is a Joint Effort (in other words, thank you for helping)

"I ordered the Whiskey Gift Set for my husband's birthday. For some reason the Post Office wasn't able to deliver it, and when I got in touch with the company to ask about what I should do Danielle responded almost right away. Before I knew it, another package was in the mail and it got to us in time. All of the extras - like the handwritten note, bumper sticker, even that weird little plastic goat - were so cute! He loved the soap and I love how helpful you were. I will definitely recommend you to others." - Elizabeth We really try hard to exceed expectations for customer service by doing things likeincluding personal notes, offering "no questions asked, no returns required" refunds for regular customers who don't like a product, and tracking down (and sometimes replacing) packages that go astray in the USPS system.   This is just...

DIY Display (or, rather, DIO - do it ourselves)

A couple weeks ago, I got a source on some amazing wine barrels for only $60 each (usually, they're lots more). I drove up to Napa and picked them up right away, because, hey! Wine barrels! Today, I did some fancy stencil work on the barrels and some crates, which you can check out here:

What The Disney Store Taught Me About Retail

Few people know this, but I worked at The Disney Store for three years when I was in my early 20s. (I was even awarded Employee of the Month a couple times!) My primary job (as with almost every Disney Store employee) was to greet and entertain customers of all types, from infant to elderly, and of nearly every culture (or at least every culture visiting the Westlake Center Mall). We were called "cast members" and our job was to put on a show... a retail show! Every customer was our friend who we were just trying to help, always respecting boundaries, never pressuring, and always happy -- eager, even -- to look for a size or specific item.

Renegade Craft Fair SF Wrap-Up

For the third day in 35 days, I missed a blog entry Sunday, Monday, and yesterday. It’s ok. I earned it. Friday morning, we showed up at the Fort Mason Center and did a whirlwind bang-up job of getting our booth together. We arrived at 9 and Russ had to leave for a handyman gig at 10:30, so we had to HUSTLE.
