You know that friend who you haven't seen in a while? The one who always knows what to say when you've had a shitty day? The one who doesn't try to solve your problems for you, but who listens, and who understands you? They probably smell not-great right now. They...
Sometimes it's hard to know what someone will love and what they just won't... which is why you don't have to pick for them anymore! Introducing THE OUTLAW GIFT CARD! It's the perfect gift when you're really not sure what to get the person, but you're absolutely sure it must...
Why are Outlaw Soaps (and colognes) the perfect gifts for that outlaw in your life? I'll tell you in a little story: Nearly 6 years ago, Russ and I went on a honeymoon vacation for our wedding. We went to Paso Robles and stayed on a little property with a...
Ah yes, that weird feeling of driving off a cliff. I remember it from last year.
At some point, the Christmas orders slow down as people realize it's probably too late to shop for Christmas presents online. Last year, we set that date at 12/21 and updated the web notification (that bar across the top) to say we were out of town through the end of the year, and then we left.
We drove off our own cliff. At least, until the new year...
Mozilla, the makers of Firefox web browser among other things, is one of the early stage funders of Outlaw Soaps.
I don't mean that they are buying shares in the company or anything, but the last several months (some of them quite lean) have been subsidized by my freelance job with Mozilla Developer Network.
It's really fun work and the company is absolutely fantastic. I'm beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to work for such a great organization and also receive compensation for that. I used to work in tech and really miss the sense of humor and purpose-driven big thinking that are the hallmarks of that industry. (that's me giving a talk on customer-driven innovation for the View Source conference in Portland last month)
The sugar is hitting the fan!
(ok, that was a cheap Unicorn Poop joke)
I imagined that I had sent all the stock we needed to send to Amazon for the entire holidays in early November. A couple weeks into November, it was clear that we would have to send more, so I sent another hundred or so bars.
In the last month (Nov 3 - Dec 3), we have sold 309 bars of Unicorn Poop through Amazon.
That was the sunrise on Mt. Diablo this morning.
For the last month, I have been leaving the house before dawn (sometimes even in my pajamas) and setting up my camera to capture time lapse videos of the "golden hour" (or "magic hour"). While I film, I write in a few journals (yes, I keep multiple journals) and enjoy two hard boiled eggs and my fancy pantsy coffee in my rattlesnake mug.
If you want to see all the videos I have shot, they're here on YouTube.
I KNOW IT'S TOO EARLY to be talking about the holidays, but the facts are these:1. We're already getting Christmas ordersand most importantly2. We're already running out of certain items, so I want to let you know what we have and what we don't, what we'll have and what we won't. (and if that doesn't sound like a good line from a Dr. Seuss book, I don't know what does)
By request (I'm lookin' at you, Damon), we're going to be making some very limited release candles this Winter. You might wonder how we're going to make candles given that candles aren't really in our wheelhouse. Well, as is our custom, we have commissioned an actual candlemaker (see actual candlemaker at...
