Now that we have a store, I hope this will be the first of many amazing tales I hear in my amazing days of meeting customers.
Though I heard many fantastic stories this week, one stood out as by far the most interesting. I'm sure you'll agree.
Murder, Pills, Subterfuge, Retribution.
On the railroad line, people sometimes take the Amtrak stopover to wander around the town.
Dave actually has set up his life to live on the rails -- traveling the country on the move. He had been doing it for four months and was in town staying with his friends up the street.
Fascinating, right? I mean, isn't that kind of a dream life?
"So, what do you do for a living, if you don't mind my asking?"
Dave investigates wrongful murder charges and attempts to get the poor patsy out of prison.
I asked for an example.
One of his recent cases had to do with a murder in the Tennessee hills. A kid was tried and found guilty of the murder, and sent to prison for a very long time.
The people (and anyone who could have had anything to do with the murder) were fiercely defensive about the town secrets. The cops couldn't get any information. The investigators couldn't get any information.
And so this kid went to jail.
Last year, Dave took the case to get this guy out. He didn't have to solve the murder, he just had to prove that there was enough confusing evidence to acquit the kid.
But the problem was that no one in town wanted to talk to him.
But everyone wants to be a star.
Dave set up a fake "movie" he was making in the town, which would be based on the murder.
The movie was called Fear the Hills.
Right away, people started stepping up to recount their version of the story. Dave, smart as he was, intentionally gave non-factual information so people would correct him.
And the story unfolded.
I'm not going to go into details, but at the end of the day, Dave got the kid out of prison. Tada! *gymnast finish*
Everyone loves a happy ending.
It's a brief little tale, but really captured my imagination. I told Dave he needs to become a writer and make a real screenplay about the case, the movie, the resolution... it's all so amazing.
