🌎 Single-use, Virgin Plastic is the Standard (and the standard is rotten)

A couple years ago, we switched from plastic bottles to aluminum bottles.

Plastic is UBIQUITOUS. Pretty much any company who launches a body wash, shampoo, conditioner, etc uses plastic.

It's cheap, it's durable, it ships fine, it's light, and people are used to it.

But it's REALLY bad for the environment.

It should ABSOLUTELY NOT be the standard in our industry, since our products are consumable. This means if you go through a bottle of body wash every month, you go through 12 bottles per year, multiplied by 100,000,000 people in the US (for the sake of easy math... we're assuming about 1 in 3 people uses body wash), is 1.2 billion bottles.

If the bottle is designed for single use (not recyclable), then it goes in the landfill month after month.

But what about "recyclable" plastic bottles? Don't they turn into new bottles, etc?

Not usually.

Because there are so many plastic bottles, it's no longer economical to recycle them. Supply of recycle-ready plastic bottles far exceeds the demand for recycled plastic... so they end up in the landfill month after month anyway.😩

FOR MOST INTENTS AND PURPOSES, PLASTIC -- EVEN RECYCLABLE PLASTIC -- ENDS UP IN THE LANDFILL.

And the fact that it takes hundreds of years to decompose is an issue in the landfill... and if you've ever been camping and found an old 7-Up bottle from the 80s (The Uncola!), you know it doesn't exactly decompose when left in the wilderness, either.

SO STOP USING SINGLE USE PLASTIC. Please.

I've found a lot of shit in the woods, and plastic is by far my least favorite shit.

Aluminum, on the other hand, is VALUABLE AS HECK. It's very easily recyclable, and it's valuable to be recycled... recycling companies can easily resell the aluminum. And this financial incentive means a lot of aluminum gets recycled!

According to a random article I found on the internet:

"Aluminum is infinitely recyclable (meaning it does not lose its quality when recycled unlike plastic) and recycling aluminum saves more than 90% of the energy needed to make new aluminum." - from this article

So yes, they're better. LOTS better.

But even if they end up in the landfill or (God forbid) in the wilderness (or in the ocean), aluminum decomposes much faster than plastic does.

Even when things go wrong, they go less wrong with Outlaw. (it's by design!)

PREP THE PATIENT

Our aluminum bottles aren't perfect -- they need a little prep to be recycled. You need to take off the (plastic) label and rinse it out before putting it in the bin.

Why not go with pre-printed aluminum? Easy: We couldn't afford it. Every bottle needed several thousand dollars of prep work to get started, and we just aren't big enough to be able to forecast that kind of specificity... Having a removable label enables us to be more agile.

But aluminum isn't without its resource use... which is why we're working on creating REFILL POUCHES for your aluminum bottles. If you can get many uses out of one aluminum bottle, that's even better for the environment!

And yes, the refill pouches are plastic, but they use less plastic than the same quantity of bottles.

PLEASE CELEBRATE THESE ALUMINUM BOTTLES FOR THE BRILLIANCE THEY REPRESENT, AND THE INTENTION THEY ARE PRESENTED WITH.
