Outlaw Soaps Wholesale: getting our products in front of our "right" customers

We don't "sell" soap.

Ok, yes, we do accept money in exchange for personal care products, but in terms of convincing people to buy something they don't want or need, we don't do that.

What we do -- or what we're trying to do -- is get our products in front of people whose lives will genuinely be enriched by our products, our spirit, and our energy. Because over the past four years, we have found that people really are enriched by our products.

But our problem is obscurity.

We're a tiny little company operating almost entirely on the internet. This poses, as I'm sure you can imagine, a lot of really interesting problems. Mainly, people can't smell our products, which is our single biggest seller.

And it's really hard to sell smelly stuff online, because all we have to go on is some words I put on the screen, and (if we're blessed enough to have dedicated customers) the words of strangers who have purchased before. But scent is an incredibly personal thing, so what "smells amazeballs!" to one person, "smells like a urinal" to another.

But people can't really tell until they give it a try for themselves.

The Right People

This is why we love working with retail shops! In stores, people can hold our products, sniff them, evaluate them, feel their heft, and read (and usually laugh) at the packaging.

Our products aren't for everyone, just like not everyone likes every store. So when we're talking to a store, we take a lot of care to make sure that their customers are also our customers. We want to make sure that, like in Whiskey River Dry Goods in Litchfield, IL, our products enrich the store's product selection (for example, our whiskey-inspired products do just great there).
