Not everyone likes Outlaw Soaps

... and that's just fine with us!

We know that scent is an incredibly personal thing. Not only do preferences differ, senses of smell differ, and even the chemistry of a cologne on different kinds of skin differs.

So when we hear someone doesn't like our products, we're totally ok with that. It's not for everyone, and it just isn't for those people!

Western Soap GiftsOne of our most divisive scents is Fire in the Hole. It's campfire-inspired, which immediately turns some people against it... but we love the smell of a good campfire. It reminds us of nights with friends out in the dusty high desert, drinking terrible beer and standing around a bonfire laughing about a good joke that someone told (and then someone else retold, because it's a little loud).

Our most popular scent, Blazing Saddles, smells like leather and gunpowder, sandalwood and sagebrush. Admittedly, when I first smelled it, I knew it wasn't my thing. It's pretty much exactly the scent of a leather shop on a warm day. But people absolutely adore it, claiming it is the "sexiest scent ever."

I didn't get it.

I didn't get it, at least, until a couple years ago.Western lotion leather

I went on a road trip through Nevada and Arizona. It was hot and dusty, and as I made my way through the dinky independent hotels and old Western towns, I had a craving for a scent that matched the Wild West... and Blazing Saddles absolutely is that scent. It smells like the spirit of the West.

It smells like the gray line between the good and bad in the friendly cowboy you meet in passing... friendly enough to make you feel welcome in town, recommend a fine place to stay, and wish you on your way, but turning the corner to maaayyyybe rob a bank.

I'm often surprised by the people who are attracted to Blazing Saddles, and the die-hard loyalty to which they pursue that rugged American scent.

Which is your favorite?

My favorite is either “Blazing Saddles”, or “Rugged Rider”. I am trying out other different ones as well to see if they surpass my love for the other two.

I’d bet the farm that my favorite scent is “The Gambler”, but you’ve got to know when to hold them, know when to fold them (Lol)!

My favorite scent by far is “Hair of the Dog”. Would love to see it in other forms. Y’all are the best. Thanks
