We've taken our willingness - nay, ENTHUSIASM - for crafting unique and unconventional scents (leather, gasoline, dirt, whiskey… as well as some more conventional ones) and trained an AI to collaborate in these innovations… and then we opened it up TO YOU (how could we keep this to ourselves?).

It will walk you through the creation of 5 scents inspired by:
👉 Your favorite scents (i.e. “something that smells like campfire and coconut”)
🌲🏠 A treasured memory (i.e. “our 20th anniversary in a Yosemite cabin”)
🤩 A vision for a future adventure you’d love to be inspired by (i.e. “a bustling Marrakesh marketplace”)
🏍️🏕️ A very specific experience (i.e. “motorcycle trip through the mountains outside of Bishop, California”)
🤪 Something totally bonkers (i.e. “Rip Wheeler’s farts” - I haven’t tested this one, fyi)
😌🍅 A sentimental moment (i.e. “breakfast in my grandma’s garden, with tomatoes on the vine and laundry hanging on a line”)
Or really anything else you can imagine (try to break it - I really do want to know if it works)
Once you’ve crafted your scents, you’ll have the option to buy a custom test flight to experience them in real life. Russ, our co-founder and incredible scent crafter, will blend FIVE versions of your favorite scent, and then you can order a full-size bottle of your favorite version (included in the price of the test flight).
However, no purchase is necessary to have fun with the scent builder. I literally use this and laugh out loud with delight, so I wanted to share it with you.
Russ is a scent genius.
If you know of Outlaw, this isn't news to you. He has been crafting our wild (and admittedly sometimes a little weird) scents for the past decade.
We are experimental.
You probably also know that we're experimental.
At work, I'm known as "the person who pushes buttons and breaks things."
I'm always willing to try something new. Most of the things I try are abandoned in the closet in the bin with the knitting needles, multi-colored markers, block cutting art, and other detritus from an overly optimistic spirit with limited time and attention.
When Chat GPT 4 came out last year, I was an enthusiastic early adopter, testing the limits of what it could do. I quickly found it was EXCELLENT at some things, TERRIBLE at others, and passably mediocre at most stuff. (though it is getting better all the time)
When Open AI launched a feature to build custom GPTs, I immediately leveraged this to create a tool that could create scent briefs to our exact specifications.
And it didn't.
Over and over, I tried refining the directions and republishing. I exhausted my extensive library of swear words trying to get it right. (obviously, AI didn't write this, because that's not something AI would know how to write)
AI Without Human Guidance is ... not helpful. Whatever the opposite of helpful is.
I mean, unless you're trying to explore the depth and breadth of your profanity library and/or create useless stuff.
I have no doubt that future iterations of AI will make this blog post age badly, but today, with the tools available, it will not initiate the techno-rapture that Silicon Valley has promised.
And I'm very happy about that.
There is one other AI scent builder out there (that I'm aware of), but it's 100% machine-made. The AI comes up with a formula and a machine mixes it.
No poetry, no romance, no brain matter.
We have tried machine-generated scents (not for Outlaw, but for curiosity) and they have not smelled right. They don't smell bad, they just don't smell how you want them to.
There is no substitute for a human nose's interpretation of a blend.
When Russ crafts the scents - regardless of the source of the inspiration - he ensures both complexity and balance. Not just theoretical or "on paper" balance, but something more ethereal.

For the past 10 months or so, Russ has been crafting scents based on briefs I have created with the help of specially trained AI. We've been getting TONS of feedback about the scents - 100% positive - and it's because of this collaboration.
When we successfully closed our crowdfunding campaign, I got to work with a developer to bring this model to the world.
It's still in very early development. The only way to get to it is to click the little brown voice-bubble in the lower right corner of the site. There's not even a standalone page.
Russ has crafted EIGHT custom blend flights based on orders using Nose-tradamus. They take work, time, focus - these are not slapdash creations.
Nose-tradamus is free to use. A custom scent flight costs more than our other sample sets because of the time and attention each set takes.
