Made in the USA, part 3

I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the response to what I have been writing about our experience as a business owner in Colfax.

You can see previous posts:
Part 1: Made in the USA: What it's like to have a small business in rural America.
Part 2: Colfax, California: how things are going in our small town

Here we are in colfax, california

To recap:
- We are based in a very small town that was hit hard by The Recession (Colfax, California).
- The money from our business supports local economic recovery, since we are hiring local people and spending at local businesses.
- Because of some complications of "manufacturing" in the historic district, our future in Colfax has been uncertain.
- In the interest of letting you know your impact in the world, I figured you might be interested in the developments of our business in the rural city.

Katie, our production assistantAfter a lot of deliberation, we have decided to try to keep our business in Colfax, while also moving our production to a more industrial area in a nearby town, Grass Valley, California.

This means we'll be extending ourselves a little beyond my personal comfort zone financially, but it also means that we can continue to live our (and probably your) values of supporting local development and our employees in Colfax (Ruth and Katie).

This decision comes on the heels of us receiving a very large check from Whole Foods (literally... see below), and comes right before Christmas, which is historically a really great season for our business (thank you for that!).

I'll continue to post updates as the situation develops.

Thanks for your support and encouragement. It's because of the support of people like you that we've been able to make this bold (and kind of scary) decision.
