For many years, my friends and I went camping to a desert in Northern Nevada on a moderately regular basis. Since Russ and I have been working, we haven't been able to enjoy this passtime very often and it has been sad.

This year, however, we're shaking off our soap shavings and heading out to the same desert with a couple of our friends.

Because these aren't your neighbor's travel slides, I figured I'd share them with you. Hopefully you'll enjoy them...

Russ's old car, a VW Passat Wagon, was a piece of crap. As a result, the "emergency" ding feature would go off pretty much at random, for quite some time. The only way to disable said dinging is to remove the fuse to the dinger, but removing the fuse to the dinger also rendered the windows powerless. The windows, however, were also broken, so they periodically got stuck... rolled down.

Here we are driving through the desert at something like 5 or 6 in the morning. It was very, very cold and very, very windy.

But as you can see, I was also very, very happy. Russ and I had only been dating for a few months, but we were super duper madly in love already.

On the playa, we established our camp by planting our flag and opening a beer!

Here we are!

I'm not so certain about this jumping-and-dancing-on-the-top-of-the-car plan. It feels unsafe.

(that was taken on the top of the car)

Our other friends showed up and the sun started setting...

Sean decided some interpretive dance was in order:

I've got to agree with him.

And Russ set up this lovely shot, where I was jumping off the ground:

The next day was also a lot of fun:

Another friend stopped by:

Ok, he isn't a ukelele-head. He's an actual guy:

Note in that photo there's an axe flying behind his head. Some guy decided to bring some throwing axes and was practicing his axe throwing at the log behind Josh. It was all perfectly safe. I'm sure.

And the next night was full of roman candles:

And the following morning, we packed up camp and headed home, happy with our amazing desert camping adventure...
